Fresno Chile - (Capsicum Annuum)
If you like to cook with peppers, the Red Fresno Chile should be your go-to. They were created in the 1950's and named after the county of Fresno in California. Very similar and often mistaken as a Jalapeno, the Fresno has a more complex flavor with a little more heat. They have a wonderful sweet smokiness and the heat is slow building. They have thin walls making them great for drying and making powders. They are very versatile when cooking with and go great in salads, salsas and perfect for making flavorful hot sauces. The fruit starts out bright green changing to orange and red as fully matured. They are about 2-3 inches in length with a slight curve.
Heat level: 2,500 - 10,000(SHU) Scoville Heat Units – Medium Heat.
Flavor: Sweet, Fruity & Smokey.
